Share on:

The Parliamentary Education Committee has completed its review of amendments regarding the offering of foreign language undergraduate programs by Cyprus' public universities. Following lengthy discussions, the issue is headed to the Plenary Session.

The following amendments were adopted:

  • Informing the Parliamentary Education and Culture Committee about the cost, tuition fees, and number of students.
  • The possibility of offering foreign language programs only if they are also offered in the official language, with the exception of inter-university programs.
  • Limiting faculty members to teaching one course in self-funded programs.
  • Mandatory personal interview.
  • Clarification of the actual operating cost of the program.
  • Ensuring that the same foreign language programs are not approved at the two public universities.
  • Announcement of the creation of new programs by the Council of Ministers.

Amendments not approved in the committee may be submitted to the Plenary Session. The discussion and voting will take place on July 10.
