Kefalogiannis: Zero Tolerance for Arsonists and Negligence

The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Giannis Kefalogiannis, declared zero tolerance for arsonists and citizens who cause fires through negligence. Speaking on SKAI 100.3, he referred to recent arrests, including two individuals in Feneos and two in Chios.
In the case of Feneos, the detainees face charges of possible intent rather than simple negligence, which carries a prison sentence. In Chios, a woman from Georgia was arrested for negligence, and a Greek man for intentional arson. Mr. Kefalogiannis emphasized the increase in arrests for arson this year.
The Minister also referred to the adverse weather conditions, with half the country on orange alert due to heatwave and winds, and appealed for responsibility, stressing that human behavior is crucial in preventing fires.
