The Presidium of the 109th Rectors' Synod of Greek Universities has convened an emergency online summit to discuss the new bill on higher education. The summit will take place on Wednesday, July 30, at 5 p.m.

Topics to be discussed include university security and the removal of 'eternal' students, scheduled to begin in September 2025.

According to a previous Rectors' Synod in early July, there is a need for immediate funding from the EPA 2026-2030 and the reinstatement of emergency funding for higher education institutions. Emphasis was also placed on the understaffing of universities.

The Synod has proposed reducing the required percentage of successful evaluation and sufficient participation in two academic assessments, as well as the possibility of justified exceptions for special cases regarding student removals.

Additionally, the Synod emphasized the need to tailor security measures to each institution, with financial support from the State and priority given to protection policies.

Finally, the Rectors' Synod appealed for support to the Greek Public University, asking the State to respect the autonomy of the institutions.
