Six non-state universities have been granted a license to operate in Greece starting from the academic year 2025-2026, following a recommendation by the National Authority for Higher Education (ΕΘΑΑΕ) to the Ministry of Education.
The applications of five other universities were rejected, while one application was withdrawn.
The universities that received a license are:
- University of Nicosia
- York University (in collaboration with City College Thessaloniki)
- Keele University (in collaboration with Metropolitan College)
- British Open University (in collaboration with Anatolia College Thessaloniki)
- London Metropolitan University (in collaboration with City Unity College Athens)
- University of Derby (in collaboration with Mediterranean College)
The universities whose applications were rejected are:
- East London
- Queen Margaret
- West London
- Essex
- Paris 13 – Sorbonne Paris Nord
- Greater Manchester (formerly University of Bolton)
ΕΘΑΑΕ imposed strict evaluation criteria, while the institutions that did not receive a license have the right to comply with the observations and reapply for the academic year 2026-2027.
The evaluation of the study programs will be announced in early September.
