Farmers Divided Over Dialogue with Government – Protests and Reactions

A division has emerged within the farmers' front regarding how to address their demands to the government. After meetings in Epanomi and Nikaia, two trends have emerged:

One trend, with representatives from 18 agricultural blocs, supports dialogue with the government to resolve problems of "vital importance" for Greek agriculture and livestock farming. In their announcement, they emphasize the need for constructive dialogue, rejecting "agendas and manipulations."

The other trend insists on escalating protests, with road and customs blockades, warning of indefinite mobilizations after the holidays. In Nikaia, temporary facilitations were decided due to the holidays, but also the continuation of the mobilizations.

Farmers' unionists such as Iordanis Ioannidis, Sokratis Aleiftiras and Giannis Vogiatzakis expressed different views on the strategy to be followed.

Blocs such as those of Airport, Evzonon, Kerdylion, Drama Prosotsanis, Bralos, Aiginiou Pierias, Niselio Imathias, Krya Vrysi Pellas, Mikrothivon, Customs Skydras, Mesimeri Edessa, Chalkidona, Achaia, Ferres and Komotini, as well as the islands of the Eastern Aegean and Rhodes, declare themselves ready for dialogue.

Despite the temporary facilitations, the farmers make it clear that the mobilizations will continue until there are substantial developments and satisfaction of their demands.
