Improved Fire Situation in Messinia, Concerns for Kythira

The fire situation in the Metamorfosi area of Pylos-Nestoros municipality in Messinia is improving. According to the Fire Department, the situation is better, and aerial resources have been operating since morning.

The fire is burning in a mountainous and difficult-to-access area. At night, it was visible even from Kalamata.

The mayor of Pylos-Nestoros, Panagiotis Karvelas, told ERTNews that during the night, a settlement in the Papaflessa municipal unit was at risk, but the danger was averted thanks to the timely intervention of the fire brigade.

Meanwhile, in Kythira, the fire that broke out on Saturday has no active front, but the fire forces remain on alert due to strong winds and fears of rekindling.
