Tsitsikostas: Aerial Assets Responded Promptly to Fires

The Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas, stated that the National Guard contributes to firefighting efforts in cooperation with the relevant state services. He pointed out that, by political decision, the National Guard now has responsibility for aerial assets.
Speaking on 'Morning Itinerary,' Lieutenant General Tsitsikostas explained that the use of aerial assets remains under the responsibility of the Department of Forests and the Fire Service, while the National Guard has operational control and coordination, ensuring the readiness of the assets for firefighting.
Referring to the recent fire, Lieutenant General Tsitsikostas mentioned that the order was given at 13:50, and the first drop was made at 14:18. He noted that 13 aerial assets were in the air. He emphasized that assigning aerial assets to the National Guard provides the advantage of flying based on international standards.
