ERT Antenna Collapses in Souda, Chania: Investigation Underway

The ERT antenna in the Souda, Chania area collapsed during the night. Police, technicians, and officials from ERA Chania are at the scene investigating the cause of the collapse.
Initial findings suggest that the wire cables holding the antenna were cut, leading authorities to consider the possibility of sabotage. The Deputy Mayor of Chania, Michalis Tsoupakis, told APE-MPE that the cables were found to be cut on one side with a tool.
Former Mayor of Souda, Giannis Perakis, disputes the sabotage theory and calls for inspections related to earthworks that were being carried out in the area. Additionally, the Municipality of Chania and ERT are in a legal dispute over the land where the antenna is located, and there are objections from local residents.
Investigations into the exact cause of the collapse are ongoing.
