Chinook Helicopters' Targeted Water Drops in Achaia During Fires

During the recent fires in Achaia, the use of Chinook helicopters proved crucial as Canadairs were unable to operate near the city of Patras. The Chinooks carried out targeted water drops, receiving specific coordinates from the ground to protect homes in the Aroi and Bozaitika areas.
One Chinook helicopter made 44 drops in the Patras area, flying for approximately 15 hours. The efforts of the Canadair pilots were also significant.
The fires caused extensive damage, including burned buildings, vehicles, and forest areas. In the Patras Industrial Area (ΒΙ.ΠΕ.), an abandoned factory and a storage area with fertilizers were destroyed. Shops outside the industrial area were also damaged.
An autopsy and damage assessment have not yet been carried out.
