Mytilene: Severe Damage to Church from Fallen Tree

The Holy Church of Agioi Pateres in Ano Chalikas, Mytilene, suffered severe damage when a large tree fell on the building due to the «Erminio» weather system.
According to stonisi.gr, a large branch collapsed parts of the roof, causing stones and plaster to fall inside the church. The damage is extensive, with piles of rubble and stones formed even in front of the Holy Altar.
A section of the roof has come loose, leaving the interior exposed, while damage is observed on walls and decorative elements. Church furniture and objects have been covered with dust and debris, while the iconostasis and storage areas for sacred objects have been damaged.
Father Stratis Giousmas stated that «by chance, there were no victims», as a service for students was scheduled for Friday (3/4). The Archeology Department, the Metropolis of Mytilene, the municipality, and the Fire Department have been informed.
The priest points out that the church had already suffered serious damage from the 2017 earthquake, which was never repaired.
