Messolonghi: Death of Athena Papachristou, the farmer who donated an ambulance

Athena Papachristou, a retired farmer from Messolonghi, has passed away. She had donated an ambulance to the local hospital, a gesture that caused nationwide emotion. The donation took place in November 2023.

Athena Papachristou stated that she proceeded with the purchase and donation of the ambulance, worth 65,000 euros, due to the need for her transfer to the hospital of Patras, where there was often no available ambulance.

In recognition of her contribution, the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, had awarded her the Order of the Taxiarch of the Order of Honor.

The Mayor of Messolonghi, Spyros Diamantopoulos, expressed his condolences, emphasizing Athena Papachristou's invaluable contribution to the local community. SYRIZA-PS also issued a condolence message.
