Larissa: Farmers face crop losses due to water shortage

Farmers in Larissa are facing serious problems due to a lack of water for irrigation, resulting in the destruction of a significant portion of this year's production. Four agricultural cooperatives have filed a complaint against the responsible authorities, denouncing the inadequate management of water resources.
This year's irrigation season was marked by delays in the water supply from Lake Plastira, causing damage to crops such as cotton, industrial tomatoes, corn, and alfalfa. It is estimated that 5,000 acres have been completely destroyed and another 5,000 acres partially, affecting the income of thousands of families.
Christos Souliotis, president of the Agricultural Cooperative of Thessalian Tomato Producers, stressed that despite early warnings and changes in crops, the water was too late to reach Larissa. The cooperatives are demanding compensation for the damage and the completion of irrigation projects in the area.
