Crete: Two in Critical Condition After Fire at Football Field
Share on:

Two individuals, a 36-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, are hospitalized in critical condition following a fire that broke out at the E.G.O.I. football field in Ammoudara, Municipality of Malevizi, Crete. The incident occurred on Friday night.

The two burn victims, who were trapped in the field's locker rooms, are intubated and receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of PAGNI hospital. Due to the severity of their condition, they are being transferred to Thriasio Hospital in Athens, a specialized burn center.

Initial reports indicate that the fire started from a generator powering the field's canteen, as DEH (Public Power Corporation) had cut off the electricity supply due to irregularities. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, examining all possibilities. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the fire was caused when the victims attempted to refuel the generator while it was running.
