Crete: Strong 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake near Lasithi

An earthquake of 5.7 magnitude occurred in the early morning hours in Crete, according to the Geodynamic Institute. The earthquake was located 25km SSW of Goudouras, Lasithi, with a focal depth of 9.7km.
The tremor was felt in many areas of the island, causing disturbance to residents due to its duration. The Deputy Regional Governor of Lasithi, Giannis Androulakis, reported that the earthquake was felt from Sitia to Heraklion and that civil protection is on alert.
Efthymios Lekkas stated that the earthquake was shallow, with a focal depth of 5 kilometers, and was felt in Crete, Kasos and Karpathos. More data is expected to assess the situation.
