Kalavryta: Train Immobilized, Passenger Rescue Operation

A train on the Diakopto-Kalavryta rack railway was immobilized near Kalavryta on Sunday, prompting a major operation to rescue 38 passengers. The train, which departed from Diakopto at 15:05, suffered a breakdown in a difficult-to-access location, 6.200 km near Niamata.
Passengers called 112, reporting the immobilization in a remote area. A rescue operation was immediately organized and completed after approximately 4 hours, with the assistance of the Fire Department.
According to a statement from Hellenic Train, the passengers were transferred back to Diakopto by a replacement train. The company is investigating the cause of the breakdown and has provided a bus for passengers wishing to continue to Kalavryta.
