Strong Earthquake of 5.3 Richter Scale Hits Epirus, Greece

A strong earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Epirus, Greece, near the Albanian border, at 05:32 early Sunday morning. According to the Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter was located 12 km east of Leptokarya, Thesprotia, with a focal depth of 12.9 kilometers.
Four minutes later, a 4.7 Richter scale aftershock occurred in the same area, approximately 20 km from Ioannina. The tremor was particularly felt in Epirus, the Ionian Islands, and Thessaly.
Professor Efthymios Lekkas told ERT that initial data indicated a strong earthquake at a relatively shallow depth. The Governor of Epirus, Alexandros Kahrimanis, reported that there were no reports of damage.
In the city of Ioannina, residents took to the streets, and there was a brief power outage that was quickly restored in the city center but lasted longer in peripheral areas.
