New "OROS" Research Center of EKETA Inaugurated at Lake Plastiras

The inauguration of the Holistic Mountain Research and Innovation Center "OROS" of EKETA at Lake Plastiras took place in Neochori, Municipality of Lake Plastiras. The event was attended by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, the Deputy Minister of Development, Stavros Kalafatis, and representatives of the state and the scientific community.
Mr. Tsiaras characterized the day as important for the development of mountainous Greece, emphasizing the strategic importance of the initiative to support disadvantaged areas. The "OROS" center is a product of cooperation between EKETA and the Municipality of Lake Plastiras and aims to become a hub for research and innovation for mountainous Greece, linking scientific knowledge with the primary sector and the local economy.
The center will operate as a core of applied research and technology transfer, with emphasis on water management, bioeconomy, agrotechnology and Renewable Energy Sources. The Minister stressed that it will contribute to the production of data for mountainous areas, with emphasis on the environment and the exploitation of energy potential.
Mr. Tsiaras also referred to government policies for mountainous areas, such as institutional interventions, tax incentives and special development programs.
