Dormition of the Theotokos: Thousands Pilgrims in Tinos for the Virgin Mary

Thousands of pilgrims are flocking to Tinos to celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos and venerate the icon of the Virgin Mary. Today, the celebrations culminate with the procession of the icon through the streets of the island.
At the same time, those who were lost when the Italians torpedoed and sank the "Elli" in the port of Tinos on the day of the Virgin Mary are also honored. The government is represented by the Minister of National Defense.
By Royal Decree of 1836, the celebration lasts eight days, until August 23.
The Mayor of Tinos, Panagiotis Krontiras, referred to the fires and expressed his solidarity with those affected.
Traffic regulation measures are in effect in the land zone of the port of Tinos.
