A ferry ban is in effect from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio due to gale-force winds blowing in the Aegean Sea. Thousands of travelers are stranded as ferry routes have been suspended.

The first route from Piraeus to the Cyclades, scheduled for 06:45, has been delayed until at least 13:00. The ban does not apply to ships operating routes in the Saronic Gulf.

A ferry ban is also in effect from the port of Rafina to the Cyclades, from the port of Lavrio to Kythnos, and on the Agia Marina-Nea Styra ferry line.

The Risk Assessment Committee convened an emergency meeting under the Secretary-General of Civil Protection, Nikos Papaefstathiou, predicting northerly winds of force 8 Beaufort, with gusts up to 9, in the eastern mainland, the central and southern Aegean, and Crete.

The risk of fire is particularly high, and problems are expected in shipping. The National Garden in Athens has been closed to the public due to strong winds.
