Lifeguards rescued a two-year-old child on an organized beach in Alexandroupoli after finding her floating unconscious. None of the beachgoers near the child had noticed the incident.

According to Athanasia Nouni, a 22-year-old lifeguard, the incident occurred at «Delfini» beach. Her colleague, Elena Kapelou, spotted the child floating face down in the water.

Ms. Nouni stated that the little girl was not breathing, and they started CPR. After a short time, the child recovered and was transported to the hospital by EKAV (ambulance service). Her health condition is good.

Ms. Nouni, a student at the Department of Education at AUTH, works as a supervisor on the beaches of Alexandroupoli. Ms. Kapelou, a graduate of the Department of Business Administration at AUTH, also works as a lifeguard in the area.

The Municipality of Alexandroupoli provides lifeguard coverage and automated external defibrillators on the crowded beaches.
