Aegina: Water Supply Crisis Troubles Residents
Share on:

Residents of Aegina have been facing a severe water supply problem for over a month and a half due to a fault in the underwater pipeline connecting the island to Attica. Water from boreholes is deemed unsuitable for domestic use, causing disruption and concern.

The fault in the pipeline, which has been experiencing recurring problems since 2022, has led to the use of old boreholes with water unsuitable for human consumption. Residents report insufficient information and delays in repairing the damage.

Vasilis Mousouleas, a resident and civil engineer, describes the situation as dramatic, with a risk of skin problems. Martha Lykouri reports confusion and delayed information regarding the suitability of the water. Residents are forced to buy bottled water for basic needs.

Island associations have sent a letter to the competent authorities, requesting immediate restoration and transparent information on water quality.
