Fiber Optics: Low Demand for Fast Internet in Greece

Despite the penetration of fiber optic networks (FTTH) in Greece exceeding 50%, their active use remains low, reaching only 15%-18%. This indicates that Greece lags behind the European average, which stands at 64%.
OTE, as well as other providers such as Vodafone, Nova, and ΔΕΗ, have invested in the development of FTTH networks. The goal is to cover millions of households and businesses in the coming years. ΔΕΗ, in particular, is targeting investments of €400 million in the period 2025-2027.
According to telecommunications industry executives, the limited use is due to factors such as the high cost for consumers, lack of awareness regarding the benefits of FTTH, consumers waiting to change providers, and limited commercial offers in some areas.
