Moderna to Lay Off 10% of Workforce

American biotechnology company Moderna has announced it will lay off 10% of its global workforce. This decision is part of a reorganization plan aimed at reducing operating expenses by $1.4 to $1.7 billion by 2027.
Moderna's CEO, Stéphane Bancel, stated that the layoffs will occur by the end of the year, and the company will have fewer than 5,000 employees. The decline in sales of the Covid-19 vaccine, due to the 'normalization' of the pandemic, has led to a decrease in the company's revenue.
In 2021, Moderna's revenue reached $18.4 billion, while in 2023, it decreased to $3.2 billion. In electronic trading, Moderna's stock fell by 2.64% to $31.30.
