Milena Apostolaki: Criticism of new bank charges

PASOK MP, Milena Apostolaki, submitted a topical question to the Minister of National Economy and Finance regarding the new bank charges for depositors. Ms. Apostolaki argues that the government is passively observing the consolidation of oligopolistic conditions in the banking system and the surge in bank profitability.
In her question, the MP points out that banks are recording high profits, while citizens see their savings not yielding returns and are burdened with monthly charges for maintaining bank accounts. She also refers to the Interim Report of the Hellenic Competition Commission, which characterizes the Greek market as having a high degree of concentration, limiting competition in deposit rates.
Milena Apostolaki asks the government to clarify its strategy towards the oligopolistic operation of the banking system and to evaluate subscription account packages, proposing interventions to protect consumers and enhance competition.
