Free ATM Withdrawals: New Cap on Fees

As of today, fees for cash withdrawals from Greek banks' ATMs are abolished. At the same time, a maximum charge of €1.50 is established for withdrawals from third-party ATMs, according to a new regulation by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance.
Key points of the regulation:
- No bank can charge its customers for cash withdrawals.
- Fees between banks participating in the DIAS interbank system are eliminated.
- A fee cap of €1.50 for withdrawals from third-party ATMs.
- Free withdrawals at third-party ATMs if there is a shareholding connection with the customer's bank.
- Fees are abolished if the ATM is the only one in the area.
Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated that this intervention has a social dimension and ensures free access to money for every citizen.
In addition, balance inquiries will be free for all cardholders, while sending remittances via digital channels from third-party providers will have a uniform charge of €0.50.
The regulation was passed on July 25, 2025, and comes into effect immediately.
