Energy balancing costs in Greece to reach €1 billion

The cost of energy balancing in Greece is expected to reach €1 billion in 2025, raising concerns about the structure and operation of the market.
The Surcharges Accounts, and especially LP3, have increased by up to 150% compared to 2024, burdening consumers and creating excess profits for hydroelectric and natural gas units, according to data from EBIKEN.
The balancing market operates as a system of 'brakes' and 'steering wheel' in electricity, correcting deviations between planned and actual production/consumption. ADMIE calls on producers to contribute, either by producing more electricity, reducing their production, or remaining on standby.
This cost is passed on to consumers through other charges.
