World-renowned American director Robert Wilson, known for his collaborations with the National Theatre of Greece and the Epidaurus Festival, has died at the age of 83.

According to an announcement, Wilson passed away peacefully in Water Mill, New York, after a brief illness. Born in Waco, Texas, in October 1941, Wilson is considered one of the most important theatrical and visual artists in the world.

His works, incorporating dance, movement, lighting, sculpture, music, and text, have gained worldwide recognition. His artistic collaborators included Heiner Müller, Tom Waits, and Susan Sontag.

In Greece, his production of Homer's Odyssey, presented at the National Theatre in 2012-13, stood out.

Memorial services will be held in places that were of particular importance to Robert Wilson.
