The Greek National Opera (GNO) is reviving Luigi Cherubini's legendary opera 'Medea' at Epidaurus, 65 years after the historic 1961 performance starring Maria Callas. The performance will take place on June 20, 2026, as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival.

The reconstruction of the 1961 performance will be based on the directorial books of Alexis Minotis, the designs of Yannis Tsarouchis, and photographic material from Callas' performances. The new creative team consists of Panagis Pagoulatos (director), Lili Pezanou (scenography), Tota Pritsa (costumes), and Christos Tziogas (lighting).

The leading role will be performed by Anna Pirozzi, with Jean-François Borras as Jason, Tassis Christoyiannopoulos as Creon, Alisa Kolosova as Neris, and Danae Kontora as Glauce.

Ticket presales begin on February 2, 2026.
