Chios: Two Turks Arrested with 12,500 Phones – Mafia Links Investigated

Two Turkish nationals, aged 62 and 72, have been arrested on Chios for smuggling 12,500 mobile phones, worth €695,000, destined for Turkey. The arrest was made by the Coast Guard following a tip-off from the EYP (National Intelligence Service), and investigations are underway into the 62-year-old's possible connection to Turkish mafia networks.
The arrests took place on 11/09/2025 by officers of the Security Office of the Central Port Authority of Chios. The mobile phones were found on a sailboat and in a van used by the 62-year-old. The seized items also include the boat, the van, a tablet, and cash in euros and Turkish lira.
The Directorate of Security and Protection of Maritime Borders (ΔΑΠΘΑΣ) is conducting an investigation into the case.
