The recovery of the bodies of the four climbers who lost their lives on Mount Vardousia, after an avalanche, has been completed. The operation was completed shortly before 4 pm and the bodies were transferred to the "Kirra" Itea location, where they were received by ambulances from EKAV.

Rescuers found the climbers buried under the snow, a short distance from each other. According to the president of the Athanasios Diakos community, K. Makrokostopoulos, their death was probably caused by asphyxiation, as the avalanche swept them away several meters.

The victims are Giorgos Domalis (leader of the team), Thanasis Kolotouros, Konstantinos Patikas and Theodora Kaplani. Giorgos Domalis was an experienced mountaineer and co-founder of technology companies. Theodora Kaplani was a teacher and nature lover.

30 firefighters, Mountain Search and Rescue Teams (O.O.E.D.), the Hellenic Federation of Mountaineering - Climbing (E.O.O.A.) and the Hellenic Rescue Team (E.O.D.) participated in the operation.
