A police officer in Thessaloniki, Thomas Pouliopoulos, has died after being informed with a one-year delay by the 424 Military Hospital that he had cancer. He underwent surgery for appendicitis in December 2022, and a year later was informed of the biopsy results showing adenocarcinoma.

His case had caused reactions and complaints about similar cases in the hospital. His legal representative, Nikos Dialynas, expressed his grief and pledged to continue the fight for justice. Lawyer Artemis Dialynas stressed the importance of early diagnosis and the family's commitment to fight for the memory of the deceased. Lawyer Nasos Dialynas expressed his condolences and referred to the police officer's feeling that he was "executed" due to the delay.

The 55-year-old had appealed to the Justice system, filing a lawsuit for the delayed notification that had worsened his health condition and his inability to care for his wife, who suffers from multiple sclerosis.
