Clash Between Coast Guard and Smugglers' Boat in Chios: Injuries and Investigation

A serious incident occurred off the coast of Chios when a Coast Guard vessel clashed with a speedboat allegedly carrying illegal immigrants. The incident took place shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to politischios.gr, during the operation to immobilize the vessel, there was a collision or exchange of gunfire, resulting in injuries to those on board. The injured are being transported to Skilitsio Hospital of Chios by ambulances.

A search and rescue operation has been launched with the assistance of a Super Puma helicopter from the Air Force, due to reports of missing persons. The area remains under control and Coast Guard units from neighboring islands are participating in the search.

There is no official update yet on the condition of the injured.
