Serifos: 27 Sheep Found Dead in Church

A horrific incident occurred in Serifos, where 27 sheep were found dead in a church in the Faros – Mesa Akrotiri area. According to a complaint by Gerontissa Anthodochi, the animals were locked in a small storage room without water and with minimal food.

As the Gerontissa states in her social media post, unknown perpetrators locked the sheep in the storage room of the Holy Trinity Church, after first throwing away the barrels containing their water. The animals were found piled up, having died of thirst and confinement.

The incident was also accompanied by extensive damage to the Holy Church, such as broken windows, damaged windows and doors, as well as the desecration of the cell of the blessed Gerontissa Anthousa. Gerontissa Anthodochi expressed her indignation at the incident, speaking of "godless people" and calling for spiritual vigilance.

In her post, the Gerontissa states: "Yesterday 22/7 with great sadness we faced one of the most heinous crimes against innocent goats and sheep in Faros - Mesa Akrotiri, the vandalism of the Holy Church of Agia Triada and the desecration of the cell of the Blessed Gerontissa Anthousa..."

Authorities are investigating the incident.
