Espionage charges have been filed against a 58-year-old Polish man arrested in Souda, Chania. His plea is expected on Monday.

The Polish man was arrested on Thursday and taken to the Chania courts, where he was charged with espionage. He was granted time to prepare his defense.

According to Creta24, the accused denies the charges that he was photographing ships in the port of Souda and sending the material to Poland.

Authorities are investigating his mobile phone for evidence confirming his activity, including special encryption software. His van has been transferred to the Chania Police Headquarters for investigation.

Reportedly, the Polish man had been visiting the Marathi area for the past three years in his van, staying there during the winter and returning to Poland in May.
