Patras: Two Detained for Arson in Sychaina

Two individuals have been detained in connection with the arson in the Sychaina area of Patras, following their testimony to the investigator. The two men, aged 19 and 27, face charges of arson on forest and non-forest land.
Initially, they allegedly confessed to the act, but during their testimony, they changed their statement, claiming they were simply in the area to watch the fire, having consumed alcohol. The 19-year-old claimed that his initial confession was given under pressure.
Authorities are investigating the possible involvement of other individuals in the case, examining the possibility of moral instigation, and are expected to request the lifting of the defendants' telephone confidentiality.
Additionally, a 25-year-old is expected to testify tomorrow regarding the fire in the Gerokomeio Patras area. His lawyers dispute the charges, claiming that their client was in the area as a volunteer to help extinguish the fire.
