Patras: 25-year-old defends himself regarding the fire at Gerokomeio

A 25-year-old is defending himself today in the Patras courts regarding the fire that broke out in the Gerokomeio area. The 25-year-old was arrested last Wednesday and denies the arson charges.
According to his lawyers, the 25-year-old was in the area as a volunteer to help put out the fire. The lawyers claim that their client was with three other people, two of whom have already testified under oath that he actively participated in the effort to deal with the fire.
In their announcement, the lawyers state that the 25-year-old was at the scene to extinguish a small fire that started from embers. In addition, they emphasize that the official report of the Fire Service indicates that the fire was not caused by human action, but was the result of the phenomenon of "staining" (transmission of embers).
The 25-year-old's lawyers express concern that an unfair conviction will deter future volunteers from helping in similar situations.
