Over 40,000 Traffic Violations During the Holidays

Over 40,000 traffic violations were recorded across Greece during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The checks were carried out by the Hellenic Police from December 19, 2025, to January 1, 2026.
A total of 189,035 vehicle checks were conducted, with most violations related to human behaviors that increase the risk of traffic accidents. According to ELAS, the most common violations were:
- 6,544 for speeding
- 1,268 for driving under the influence of alcohol
- 988 for not wearing a protective helmet
- 832 for not wearing a seat belt
- 830 for driving without a license
In addition, violations were recorded for running red lights, using mobile phones, irregular maneuvers, and driving in the opposite direction. The Hellenic Police announced that the checks will continue with unabated intensity.
