Eight siblings from Heraklion, Crete, are being sheltered at the Venizeleio Hospital following the arrest of their parents for abuse and domestic violence allegations against their grandfather.

Initially, the children were placed in the care of their paternal grandmother, who stated she was unable to raise them. Subsequently, the maternal grandfather took custody but is now accused of domestic violence after a complaint from his 13-year-old granddaughter.

According to neakriti.gr, the minor child reported the 60-year-old grandfather for physical assault, leading to his arrest. The children, aged 2.5 to 15 years, remain in the hospital without relatives able to care for them.

In early December, the Heraklion Misdemeanor Court convicted the parents, a 45-year-old Cretan father and a 33-year-old mother from Cyprus, to imprisonment. The sentence was 2 years and 6 months for the father and 7 years and 3 months for the mother.

The case began with an anonymous report to "The Smile of the Child" regarding physical and psychological abuse. The parents' lawyer, Alexandros Foukarakis, disputes the charges, while "The Smile of the Child" has reported previous serious incidents.
