New Mexico: Infant Found Dead in Portable Toilet – Mother Arrested

A case involving a newborn girl found dead inside a portable toilet in New Mexico, USA, has caused shock. 38-year-old Sonia Jimenez has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse resulting in death.

According to police, Jimenez allegedly gave birth to the child, cut the umbilical cord, and then placed it in the toilet's holding tank, where the infant drowned. The autopsy confirmed that the infant was alive when thrown into the toilet and inhaled the chemical liquid.

Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story stated that this is one of the most heartbreaking cases he has encountered. Authorities do not expect charges to be filed against Jimenez's partner.

A similar case occurred in New York in October 2024, when a newborn infant was found dead in a backyard.
