Mexican authorities have arrested Pedro Inzunza Noriega, a cartel leader, in the state of Sinaloa. The United States accuses him of 'narco-terrorism'.

Inzunza Noriega, second in command of the Beltrán Leyva organization, is accused by Washington of trafficking fentanyl and other narcotics.

His son, Pedro Inzunza Coronel, also accused of fentanyl trafficking, was killed by Mexican soldiers in November during an operation in Sinaloa.

The U.S. Department of Justice had filed charges of 'narco-terrorism' and 'material support of terrorism' against Pedro Inzunza Noriega and his son, designating the Sinaloa cartel as a 'foreign terrorist organization'.

An internal war between two factions of the cartel has claimed the lives of hundreds of people in the state of Sinaloa since September 2024.

President Trump had threatened Mexico with increased tariffs if it did not reduce the flow of drugs and migrants to the U.S.
