Mandra: Defendants Acquitted in Flood Case by Court of Appeal

The Athens Court of Appeal has unanimously acquitted the three defendants in the deadly floods that occurred in Mandra in November 2017. The decision concerns the former mayor of Mandra, the former head of the Building Service of Elefsina, and the deputy head of the Technical Works Department of the Regional Unit of West Attica.
The Court of Appeal's decision aligns with the previous acquittal by the first instance court, despite the annulment by the Supreme Court regarding the charge of manslaughter by negligence. The judges took into account the risk of the statute of limitations expiring and issued their decision with expedited procedures. It is worth noting that the prosecutor had proposed the conviction of the first two and the acquittal of the former mayor.
