Xanthi: Police Officer Abducts and Beats Citizen, Mistaking Him for Migrant

A serious incident occurred in Xanthi, where a police officer allegedly abducted and beat a 40-year-old Greek citizen, mistaking him for an illegal immigrant.
According to xanthinews.gr, the off-duty and plainclothes officer approached the citizen in the Sounio area, handcuffed him, and transported him to a field in Selero, where he beat him and abandoned him.
The victim is a Greek expatriate from Germany, with dual citizenship (Greek and German), who had visited Xanthi to see his parents. He suffers from multiple sclerosis and has communication difficulties due to hearing problems and limited Greek language skills.
The police officer is accused of dereliction of duty, illegal detention, and bodily harm. He has been arrested, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against him.
The Hellenic Police (ELAS) emphasizes that it will not tolerate such behavior and will immediately activate the necessary procedures to ensure legality.
