Crete: Investigation Ongoing into Vorizia Massacre, 7 Arrests

The investigation into the armed incident in Vorizia, Heraklion, is fully underway, with the Heraklion Sub-Directorate for Crime Prosecution and Investigation collaborating with D.A.O.E. and the Faistos Police Department.
To date, seven people have been arrested as directly involved, as well as two more people (a 17-year-old and a 56-year-old) for harboring and neglecting the supervision of a minor, respectively. The seventh person, aged 48, was arrested after an arrest warrant was issued.
Two of the defendants, aged 25 and 30, pleaded and were remanded in custody. As part of the investigation, 27 searches have been carried out in homes, 21 in livestock farms and other areas, 17 detentions and 352 checks on people and vehicles.
During the searches, weapons and ammunition were found and confiscated, which have been sent for laboratory examination. The investigation continues to identify all those involved.
The issue of gun ownership was raised by the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Thanasis Kontogeorgis, who referred to a comprehensive package of prevention and suppression measures, as well as the work of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
