Crete: Security Measures at Evangelia Fragiadakis' Funeral

Unprecedented security measures were taken by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) for the funeral of 56-year-old Evangelia Fragiadakis, who was killed in the bloody conflict in Vorizia. Police used a metal detector at the church entrance and conducted searches with dogs for explosives.
Dozens of police officers were stationed around the perimeter of the church and on the surrounding streets of the village. The body of the 56-year-old, who worked as a nurse at the Chania hospital, was transferred to the Holy Church of the Holy Cross.
Relatives and friends gathered to bid farewell to Evangelia Fragiadakis, asking for the cycle of blood to stop and for an end to be put to the vendetta that is shaking Crete. The burial will take place in the Alikianos cemetery.
The forensic report confirmed that the death of the 56-year-old was caused by "chest injuries from a gunshot wound", characterizing it as "homicide".
