A sanitation worker was seriously injured in Rethymno, Crete, when a drunk motorcyclist hit him while he was on a garbage truck. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday on the city's coastal road.

According to Boumpalou Sofia, President of the Rethymno Municipality Workers' Association, the worker was hit during garbage collection. The motorcyclist struck him against the garbage truck, causing a fracture in his right leg, bruises on his back, and a head injury. Fortunately, the truck's shears were closed, preventing a more serious injury.

This incident recalls the recent accident in Alimos, where a 65-year-old sanitation worker lost her life when a taxi collided with a garbage truck. Other incidents of violence against sanitation workers are also reported, such as in the central square of Ioannina, where a street cleaner was attacked.

In June, in Kypseli, three men beat a 49-year-old sanitation worker, while in Athens, a 63-year-old was attacked with a knife by a homeless man.
