Kilkis: Police Officers Sentenced Up to 9 Years for Illegal Activities

Police officers in Kilkis have been sentenced to up to 9 years in prison following an investigation by the EL.AS. internal affairs unit. The convictions relate to involvement in illegal excavations, fake passport endorsements, and tobacco smuggling.
In total, 54 defendants were found guilty by the Thessaloniki Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies, while the rest were acquitted or discharged. Sentences range from 2 to 9 years in prison.
Among those convicted is a retired EL.AS. officer, who allegedly had the nickname 'Beetle'. The convicted individuals were found guilty of various offenses, including illegal excavation, bribery, false certification, and smuggling.
Two police officers were sentenced to 8 and 9 years in prison for involvement in false certificates of movement for foreigners, with the mediation of three Albanians.
