East Attica Fire: Arson Investigation Launched After Devastating Wildfire

East Attica is counting its wounds after the devastating fire that started on Friday from Keratea. The fire, which started around 14:00, spread rapidly due to strong winds, threatening residential areas and destroying thousands of acres.

A 76-year-old man lost his life in Togani. 112 messages were issued for evacuations in Drosia, Charvalo, Agiasma, Maliasteka and other areas.

Stavros Petropoulos, Deputy Mayor of Saronikos, reported the existence of gas canisters in the area where the fire started, implying possible arson. There is video footage showing a person moving suspiciously shortly before the fire started. The Fire Department has collected the data for investigation.

Konstantinos Tsigas, President of the Union of Fire Service Officers, confirmed the collection of data by the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes.

In total, 15,808 acres were burned.
