Greek Police Operation Targets Fuel Theft: 10 Arrests

A major operation by the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) is underway across Greece, targeting fuel stations allegedly stealing fuel from unsuspecting citizens. According to initial reports, ten arrests have been made.
The fuel stations using illegal software to deliver less fuel than indicated are located in Attica, Thessaloniki, Central Greece, Thessaly, Thrace, and Central and Eastern Macedonia. More than 30 gas stations, companies, and homes are under investigation.
Among those arrested is the owner of a gas station in Piraeus, which was destroyed by a bomb explosion on March 8, 2024. Fuel theft is estimated to range from 15% to 35% depending on the payment amount.
Authorities are searching for hidden tanks and investigating possible fuel smuggling and adulteration.
