Clashes in Metaxourgeio: Police Use Chemicals at Education Directorate

Clashes occurred on Thursday morning outside the Primary Education Directorate in Metaxourgeio, when police forces used chemicals and stun grenades.
According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), the tension began when members of the parents' association of the 36th primary school of Athens, as well as members of the groups "No Metro in Exarcheia Square" and "Open Assembly for the Defense of Lofos Strefi", tried to enter the building.
The protesters are reacting to the merger of 15 departments into 12 schools in the area, calling the measures "anti-educational and class-based".
