Share on:

A powerful explosion occurred in an apartment building in Thessaloniki early Saturday morning, with initial indications suggesting the target was the president of prison officers. The explosion caused property damage and minor injuries to two people.

The explosion took place in an apartment building on Makedonomachon Street, within the Neapoli-Sykies municipality. The bomb was placed in the elevator shaft, below the apartment of the prison officer, who serves in the Diavata prison.

According to the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.), the explosive device contained three kilograms of dynamite-type material. The case has been taken over by D.A.E.E.V., examining the possibility of a terrorist act and a connection with prison circuits.

The injured were taken to Hippocratio Hospital, while the police are collecting material from security cameras and testimonies to identify the perpetrators.
